Gastroesophageal reflux disease is a widespread condition presenting with heartburn, regurgitation, hoarseness, and pain or difficulty with swallowing food. It is a result of dysfunction of the normal valve mechanism at the junction of the esophagus and stomach. It is often associated with hiatal hernia of variable degrees. When the stomach is displaced into the chest it can cause nausea, vomiting, heartburn, pain after eating, regurgitation of food, or progressive inability to swallow food.

Comprehensive Endoscopic & Laparoscopic Procedures

cTIF (concomitant Transoral Incisionless Fundoplication)

This is a TIF 2.0 procedure combined by a hiatal hernia repair for patients with a hernia greater than 2 cm. GERD is caused by a gradual deterioration of the antireflux barrier. The antireflux barrier (ARB) consists of the crural diaphragm, the LES(lower esophageal sphincter) and its sling fibers, and the gastroesophageal flap valve. These three factors contribute to the mechanical and physiologic barriers to reflux. cTIF resolves the root cause of reflux by addressing all three components of the ARB.

CONCOMITANT TRANSORAL INCISIONLESS FUNDOPLICATION

(TIF) Transoral Incisionless Fundoplication

For those seeking an alternative to medication therapy for significant reflux, we offer Transoral Incisionless Fundoplication, or TIF. This minimally invasive procedure, effectively restores the valve mechanism. It involves an endoscopy with a specialized device to fold the upper stomach over the esophagus, recreating the valve. TIF offers advantages such as reduced downtime and improved reflux remission rates.

Hiatal Hernia Repair with Fundoplication

This laparoscopic, minimally invasive procedure is the mostly commonly performed for a GERD with larger hiatal hernia treatment. It involves diaphragmatic hernia repair and re-creation of antireflux barrier with stomach wrap around esophagus.”
